The 1275 km² "Tai Poutini" stretches from the South Island of New Zealands West Coast up to the 3498 m high Mount Tasman in the South Alps. Due to the steep gradient, several glaciers flow down to a height of up to 200 m, the best known of which are the Franz Josef Glacier and the Fox Glacier. There is a unique coastal rain forest on the very rainy coast. Together with Fiordland National Park, Mount Cook and Mount Aspiring National Park, Westland National Park forms the so-called Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area. A UNESCO World Heritage Site!
