Blue River & Blue Polls

The Blue River is a small River that is freshly fed from the glaciers of Mount Aspiring National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. Clay particles are washed out of the rock and mixed with the water. Just the right amount made it into the water here, creating this unique color.

The river flows into the Blue Pools, where all of their beauty unfolds. These can be easily reached in 10 minutes from a parking lot on State Highway 6 and those who still want to move a little further can look for the source of the river on the Blue Valley Track with its 2.5 km (2-3 hours) uphill.
