This beach consists of a 40 km long and 10 meter thick shell bottom. The waves have already swept billions of cockles here on the coast. Then the rain washes the calcium carbonate from the shells of the stranded mussels and concretes the lower layer. This "building material" was so well suited that the residents of the area knocked their stones out of this spot to build their houses. This easily replace to wood which you only can get 100 km south from this place.
